A Little Bit of History

As a Regional Sales Manager for Samson Cordage Works, Robert C. Hutson was challenged by the United States Navy in 1963 to develop a helicopter sling with non-dielectric properties. Our sailors on aircraft carriers were being shocked as they used wire rope (steel) slings to hook up cargo to the bottom of helicopters. A synthetic sling, or Reach Pendant, made with 2-in-1 nylon rope, was designed, spliced, and fabricated in a neighbor's kitchen.
